To become a dental assistant, first determine if you can stand looking inside the mouth of another person for extended periods of time. The mouth, with all 32 teeth, is a mystery on its own and it may not sit well with you to be poking around them everyday.

Dental assisting is an entry-level job. So training will consist of introductory courses to familiarize you with dentistry, its terminology, the procedures involved, equipment used and some basic administrative skills, since you will be tasked to perform these as well.
The training program is part instructional and part clinical. Complete them all successfully and you are closer to becoming a dental assistant.
